wrecker driver in deep sh*t !!!!! AND truck wreck

in January in central Ohio a towing company was called for a semi with doubles stuck in the mud in a ditch. the opperator used a 3 ton snatchblock in conjunction with his winch lines on the heavy duty. the snatchblock ripped apart and flew in to the lanes of traffic, in a passing moterests car and killed her.



This is a horable accident and this is exactly why everyone should be trained.



I agree 100% that this driver should be charged but so should the owner of the company. He is also responcable for this, why is a 3 ton block in this type of truck at all? He is at extreme towing



i am pissed about this. its another reason why this industry is looked down upon. heck, after the video report, i do too!

Tow Truck Driver Charged In Death






When a pulley snapped off a tow truck and killed 22-year-old Danielle Knapp, a passing driver, it looked like a freak accident, but now tow truck driver William Peck is charged with reckless homicide.



The investigator in this case thought right away the pulley looked too small for the job that fatal night. It was, and the homicide charge is based on the fact that Peck should have known that.



The pulley hurled through Knapp's windshield as she drove home along I-270. It was lying next to her car when investigators arrived.



The pulley broke off the tow truck as the driver was trying to pull a huge semi out of the mud.



Accident investigator Steve Fickenworth says he now knows why the pulley broke. The words "three tons" are stamped on the pulley; that means it's rated to pull a three-ton vehicle.



Fickenworth says, "It's way, way, way underrated for what he's trying to do."



The tractor trailer Peck was trying to pull that night, wasn't three tons, it was more than 30 tons. That's what officials say makes it reckless homicide.



"He should have known this was wrong due to his experience as a wrecker driver. He should take the time to make sure the equipment he's using is adequate to pull the weight that he's trying to pull," says Fickenworth.



Jim Knapp, Danielle's father, says, "You'd think they're professional enough to hook it up right so that wouldn't happen."

Danielle Knapp's parents spoke with 10TV just hours after the death of their only child.



Knapp says, "I was her best friend. She was my best friend."



For six months they've waited to find out why that pulley broke. Now they will wait again to see if a jury agrees



that Peck is the one to blame.

It was a wild run for one big-rig driver this afternoon. Just before 1pm, William Copeland was driving his semi west on I-16. All of a sudden, another driver cut him off just before the I-95 exit. Copeland swerved to avoid smashing into other cars and his truck jackknifed, skidding out of control and ending up in the woods along the interstate.



"I believe the Good Lord had to have a hand in it, no one else got hurt, I crossed two lanes of traffic--twice--and no one got hurt," he said.



More than an hour later, a big-rig wrecker showed up to tow Copeland's truck out of the woods.
