rollover w/ a crane

first off let me appoligize for the quality of the pictures, the sun was not cooperating.

well there is a company in chicagoland that has a crane. they use the crane on everything they do. i know there is alot of debate on rotators, cranes, and the differences, similaritys and wether cranes have any buisness in the towing industry. i don't perticularily want to debate the topic or make an issue of it except to say that after what i have seen in my 9 years of towing and recovery, i don't think they belong in the industry. but i will let everyone out there in towingland decide for yourselves.

today there was a recovery on a major expressway blocking all lanes and state police called this particular towing company out along with IDOT (Emergency Traffic Patrol) under Idots direction, the privit towing company relocated the rollover off to the side and only blocked a ramp. ETP had their heavy duty in route but cancled it when the lanes were opened. this truck was loaded with Kegs of beer. it had aprox 144 kegs (thats 20,304 glasses- WOW, thats alot of beer and a lot of weight- aprox- 23,328 (that seems low but 1 keg serves aprox 141 cups and 1 keg weigs 162lbs)) this was not a metal container, it was a trailer with the frame with the lift points for the rail yards (i forgot the name, but u get the jist) it was on a rail chassie. the attachment points that the recovery personel used were the trailers lift points. they did not use straps. the driver suffered several broken bones.

this was taken b4 he was in posision to upright it.

this was right b4 the upright, as you can see the tractor was not hooked to any recovery vehicle. i have some more crane recoveries i will post in the next day or so. i was there when the recovery was done but unable to work my camera. the recover went over on there first attempt.

i have so many problems with this recovery i don't know where to start, but i will let you all stew over it for a while.

but i will ask these questions:

where were there safety gear?

why did they have to block a lane to up right this (they blocked it with the stiff leg from the crane and the front of the rear recovery truck?

this made a lot of noise and movement on touchdown as well as swaying- where was the catch vehical?

the sides of the trailer (with the exception of the lift points (wich by the way, are designed for a strait up and down lift, not in the mannor that towers tent to use them)) the sides are thin regular trailer, where is the suport for them?

what about the tractor, no recovery support for it?
