Ernies and Wildwood

thiese pictures and discription are from: http://members.fortunecity.com/firedan/myersfirephoto/indexx.html

i want to thank Dan Meyers for these pics and for a great web site:

A Gasoline Tanker truck was exiting I-94 northbound onto Rt. 132 westbound when it flipped on it's side at
the top of the exit ramp and ripped several holes in the tank. Several thousand gallons of fuel spilled
from the tanker. The Gurnee Police Department called Wildwood Service to the scene but the IL Tollway
Authority took over the scene and called Ernies Towing. Both companies have a very good working
relation so they uprighted the semi together. Once the tanker was drilled and unloaded, Wildwood
Service & Ernies Towing had the truck back on it's wheels very quickly.

my comments:

they did a good job!!!

ernies rollover

as some of you may recal, a few months ago, i told you all about a rollover that happened on the ramp from I90 e/b to I294 n/b (tollway) and i mentioned that, as a tollway member, i was not alowed to take pics of the recovery and i had to sit on a hill a football field away to watch- well, good news, someone else took the pictures and i found them on www.wreckerdriver.com at: http://www.corey.builderspot.com/ernieswrecker.html very cool pics!

see all the gaurd rail that is destroyed- i helped fix that!

this is the only rollover that i have ever seen that rolled on to its side, onto its roof, and on to its other side- very cool!!

not exactly what i would have done but good job!!!!

Heavy Duty suck in a hole!

as many of you know, i have no life and i spend a lot of time surfing the web in my free time- surfing anything towing related-- i know, im a loser- but it makes me happy!!!

anyway,

i found: http://www.claytons-towing.com/

on there, they have pics of them recovering a heavy duty that some how got stuck in the ditch- very cool pics. i have no other info about this recovery, how it got stuck or whos truck it is..... but, you can bet- i will find out!!!

i have always found it very amusing to see wreckers in compermising positions, it always seems so ironic- of corce, i am no stranger to getting stuck, so i feel bad for these guys- it is very embarising

i can not make much comment about this recovery because i do not have all the nessessary info

what i will say is: when you are pulling anything and your wreckers wheels come off the ground, you need to stop and come up with a different plan. when your wheels come off the ground, you are not only deeling with the resistence of the recovery, but you just added the entire front end weight of your truck on thoes lines, you have overextended your lines

here is another example: this was from a web site but i don't know where but when i find it i will let you know

as you can see, this also takes away from the friction that holds the truck in place, they have went way over the booms rating and the lines. if you find your self getting into this type of situation, i strongly recomend that you stop and get another wrecker to help or get some sort of dead man to puill from.

Emergency Vehicle Show

these are pics from last year and of the demos we did

its that time of year again, the emergency vehicle show in Aurora Il. this is mostly Police and Fire but like last year, Lin Mar Towing will be setting up and working a mock rescue - something like a rollover semi on a car. if my preliminary plans happen, this will be a massive recovery opperation with multipul cassultys involved and multipul vehicals that need heavy rescue- think of the worst case senario and thats what im cooking- now im still not shure how much will fly, because i have not nailed down exactly what i want and there fore i have not run this by the fire chief but last year, he wanted a chalenge and this year, IDOT ETP and Northern Illinois Towing will be working with us. MediVac helocopter and many other agencys will be involved.
if your in the area, check it out.
i heard a rumer that next year, there may be more Wreckers invited- kind of like a Tow Show for the public!
check out: http://www.emergencyvehicleshow.com/ for more info

1953 American LaFrance Slant Bed Car Carrier Show truck

Vehicle Description

You are bidding on a most unique car carrier, a converted 1953 American LaFrance Fire Truck This vehicle was completed about 2 years ago and has about 2200 miles on the new digital odometer It is powered by a 500 Cu In 76 Cadillac engine and turbo 400 transmission. The cab has been converted to a closed cab, which now sits 5 or sleeps 2 behind the driver and shotgun passenger. The rear compartment converts to either of these configurations in about 1 minute by relocating the cushions and support panels. This vehicle won best in show in its first outing at a local truck show in Jacksonville NC. The paint is a base coat clear coat teal color, German made, which flip/flops from blue to green depending upon the way the sun strikes the surface. 6 Quarts of that base coat cost me over $300. . It has a 2 speed Eaton rear, new front tires, and entire new interior including electric controlled drivers seat from a Nissan 300ZX. The instruments are digital. The brakes are power assist hydraulic. The winch is an 8000 Lb. unit. This vehicle has been used mostly to haul my street rod, to local shows here in Eastern NC. It did this duty in March 2004 when it hauled my car to Myrtle Beach for the Run to the Sun. It has been used to haul some disabled vehicles locally to my shop in Newport NC. The bed and rear cab panel has been sprayed with bed liner. The slant back was fabricated from a NOS 5 ton military truck bed and measures 8 x 18 feet. It has carried an extended 17 passenger Dodge Van. I strongly recommend that you come see and drive this most unique car hauler Test drive it before you bid Low reserve..

i actualy like the idea of a fire truck converted into a wrecker, but  this is...........

here is a very cool fire truck conversion from Floyds in Wisconsin:

Wrecker and Garage TO GO! Portable Workshop all in ONE!

Vehicle Description

Up for auction here is a very interesting 1981 Chevrolet Bus converted professionally into a wrecker, mobile home toter, welding and auto repair shop on wheels. It sports a very well running 350 ci engine with an Allison heavy truck automatic. It is strong off the line and will do 75 mph easy. The Bus has 102,000 miles on it. GVWR is 23,160 lbs (12,000 front and 21,160 rear). No CDL required.

I bought this bus from a Church and have converted it myself. It's what I do for a living. I rebuild trucks and do whatever to whatever. This vehicle has a very heavy duty hardened steel rear bumper tied directly into the frame. It will definately hold up. It has a 20 ton pintle hitch and a heavy Reese hitch/insert for balls. The vehicle comes with a very good running, electric start, Lambardini single cylinder Diesel gen set that produces about 5,000 watts of 115v and has a 220 volt outlet also.  The Diesel tank on it holds about 1 gallon of fuel...and the thing runs for hours on that small tank.

Roof AC is provided by Coleman... maybe 5000 btu. The AC works fine but needs to be wired to the new breaker box near the front door. The vehicle also comes with a 20,000 btu Propane furnace that needs to be installed. The bus has air brakes, air horns and dual amber beacon lights. Rear tires are new Bridgestone recaps. The front tires have about 90% tread and are in excellent shape. The wrecker winch works fine and is a 10 ton (I think). The winch needs to be connected to the pto... and the pto comes with the bus.

This bus comes with two upper tool boxes, and two lower tool boxes which are under the sheet metal counter. The bus also comes with a Century 135 Amp mig welder with gas bottle (75/25). This welder is a couple years old, but works fine. Also with the bus/wrecker comes a new Lincoln 225 amp stick welder, 150 feet of very heavy copper leads, a new Harris Torch outfit and tanks with 150 feet of hoses. The spool on the wrecker sports 250 feet of 1/2 inch stainless aircraft quality cable. You won't be breaking it. I have dragged a 20,000 lb wrecker up a hill backwards with this cable and it is stout.

There are far too many tools to list (most of which are Craftman and less than a year or so old), but let me list a few...Welding, mechanics and carpenter air and hand power tools. Wrenches sockets, hammers, files, chisels, punches, timing lights, hundreds and hundreds of every tool a craftsman needs. Air nailer to 4 inch, Brad nailer to 2 inch. Chain saw, 1/2 inch hammer drill, paint sprayer (NIB), and what ever else I have failed to mention that is seen in the photo's. There is without a doubt, at least $3,000 worth of tools and power equipment in this bus/wrecker.

Item is offered locally and if sold locally will be pulled from auction. Item is warranted to run and operate well with no problems and can be safely driven to anywhere. Local pick-up only -  no delivery - I'm too busy.

$1,000 deposit by Paypal within 48 hrs of auction end with balance paid and vehicle picked up within 7 days after auction ends.

The bus needs a paint job.

Unless otherwise stated, item is sold "as is, where is".

MY COMENTS:

well, at first, i was repulsed by this truck, but- after thinking about it, looks asside, i loke the idea of having the service truck combined with the wrecker!
