semi v.s. Gaurdrail

Late last week, a TT veered off the mainline of the out bound Kennedy expressway and ran over aprox 50 ft of guardrail. The TT was completely off the road and on the shoulder. The front bumper of the tractor was in the AIS (see aerial photos below) when an accident is not blocking traffic, IDOT ETP (emergency traffic patrol) lets a privet contractor provide the recovery. IDOT ETP and the Police left when the contractor (hillside) arrived. The only ones left were IDOT Maintenance. Hillside closed 1 lane at 3pm (rush-hour) to lift the back of the trailer up to change tires. They singled out both sides of the trailer tires on both axels. At around 4pm- ETP came back around and told them to open the lane NOW and pull the TT forward 50 feet into the AIS. After the TT was pulled into the AIS- a tire service showed up to fix all the tires on the trailer- the same ones hillside just singled out.

I used to work for the IDOT maintenance department with the Kennedy yard. These are my friends in the pictures.
